Influencer Apoorva Mukhija AKA The Rebel Kid apologises for her comments on 'India's Got Latent'
The content creator addresses the backlash faced after featuring in the controversial India’s Got Latent episode, including death threats and multiple FIRs for the indecent remarks made on the show
Mumbai: With an Instagram following of 3.3 million followers, Apoorva Mukhija, popularly known as The Rebel Kid, blacked out from her social media presence for over 2 months after the India’s Got Latent fiasco.
Mukhija, along with Samay Raina and Ranveer Allahbadia faced intense backlash for making indecent comments on the show, following which their previously posted content too came under scrutiny of the authorities.
Mukhija resumed posting on social media 2 days ago signalling trigger warning before sharing many screenshots and snippets of death and rape threats received over the weeks since the controversy.
Yesterday, followed by a link to her YouTube page, 23 years old Mukhija posted a 35 minutes long video apologising for the comments she made on the now retracted episode as well as sharing her fear for safety.
Mukhija said, "I genuinely create content to entertain people and to make them laugh. I never wanted to hurt anybody and I am very very sorry. I should have been more mindful of my words but I have learnt my lesson and I promise I will do better going forward. I just hope you guys can forgive me and I am very sorry if I hurt your sentiments.”
According to Mukhija in the second half of the episode, one of the guests made a demeaning comment about her body and she retaliated in anger.
"Usually, you expect people to say things like that online because they can be anonymous there and they know there are no real consequences, but you don’t expect people to say something like that in front of a live audience. So when I said that statement, it genuinely did not come from a place of being funny or creating a moment or being savage. It genuinely came from anger and retaliation. My intention wasn’t to hurt anyone, except for that guy’s ego,” she said.
The Rebel Kid went on to elaborate how this unforeseen situation has caused her mental stress along with causing emotional and physical stress to her family and friends.
Although away from the spotlight, Mukhija was yet again embroiled in controversy while holidaying in France as she got involved in a security brawl at the Sabrina Carpenter concert in Paris for causing disturbance in the audience arena while dancing and using flash for video recording, hindering the audience view.
Addressing the viral clip where she was seen using her phone's flash, the content creator said, “The girls standing next to me, the moment I was making my video, were like ‘Switch off your flash’. I told them I needed a video on two songs. She started pushing me.”
She added that in her vlog, she had said she would slap the person, but clarified she never actually did. “I was describing the incident in Hindi, which she couldn’t understand. I never hit anyone.”Apoorva said she was at a music festival in the French Alps when she realised the concert footage was going viral. “I read that notification and I reacted, ‘Tomorrow this is going to be picked by every newspaper and meme page possible.’ So, I had a full-blown panic attack,” she shared.
