Meta has introduced new ways to discover short-form videos, on its platform Facebook, that’s most relevant to users as well as new controls to help them personalise their video experience on the platform.
As Reels continue to grow on Facebook, the platform said it is making them easier for users to discover them across the app, including updates to how they’re surfaced in Facebook Watch.
The platform has added Reels to the main navigation at the top of Facebook Watch to give users quick access to short-form video, making it easier to discover creators, trends, and content that matches their interests. Additionally, when watching videos on Facebook, they’ll now be able to scroll seamlessly between reels and long-form videos.
Similar to other Facebook personalisation tools, Facebook is also giving users more control over the reels they see across the app.
- Show more, Show less: Now, users can inform the types of reels they’ll see more or less of by tapping the three-dot menu at the bottom of the video player and selecting either Show More or Show Less.
They’ll also begin to see this option below reels as well as videos in the Watch feed. Selecting Show More on a reel will temporarily increase its ranking score and for reels like it. Selecting Show Less will temporarily decrease its ranking score.
- Contextual labels: Facebook is also launching new labels on the Reels video player to explain why they’re seeing certain reels — for example, because a friend of theirs liked it.
